Quinta do Sobral

Restoration Project of Quinta do Sobral

Quinta do Sobral, Agrela, Santo Tirso.

This estate, covering approximately 7 hectares, was formerly owned by Mr. Augusto Carneiro Pacheco and was once part of Quinta da Agrela, one of the earliest projects by landscape architect Francisco Caldeira Cabral and architect Raul Lino. The intervention in the main house and Quinta da Agrela took place between 1945 and 1949.

Quinta do Sobral, now separated from Quinta da Agrela, was primarily used for agricultural purposes, with orchards consisting mainly of orange and almond trees.

The property features a water management system built in the early 1940s, comprising four water tanks and four mine water outlets, which remains in use today. This hydraulic system, together with the estate's terraces and dry-stone walls, built during the same period, was also the subject of study as part of the proposed restoration of this historically significant estate.
