terra is a landscape architecture studio based in Lisbon. Understanding the identity and material character of each place is essential to its interpretation and transformation. Our approach is grounded in a process and function-oriented practice that creates, restores, and enhances urban and natural environments. terra seeks to deliver implementable solutions that improve quality of life and promote the sustainable use of resources.

Duarte Natário (Porto, 1987), landscape architect with a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (2010) and a postgraduate degree in Landscape Architecture and Urban Ecology from the same institution (2017).
In 2012, he was awarded the IFLA Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Research Grant. He writes on subjects related to Landscape and Urban Planning and has contributed to the newspaper Público.
He directed the documentary Tudo é Paisagem (2019), on the history of Landscape Architecture in Portugal. He also collaborates with the Landscape Observatory at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. He is managing partner at terra.
João Francisco Coelho (Porto, 1986), architect with a Master’s degree in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto and the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (2004–2010).
He completed an internship in Berlin at Welter+Welter Architekten, where he later collaborated for four years (2011–2015), participating in the design and construction of large-scale residential buildings.
He later collaborated in Lisbon with the studio In’loki – território e arquitetura (2015–2020), where he developed projects of various scales, with a focus on office buildings and rehabilitation projects.
He has collaborated with terra since 2021.
Laura Fortuna (Padova, 1998), architect with a Master’s degree in Green Spaces and Landscape Design from the Università degli Studi di Genova (2021–2024) and a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences and Technologies from the Università degli Studi di Padova.
She has developed international academic experience, including exchange programmes in Brazil and at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia of the University of Lisbon. She also completed an internship in Lisbon at PROAP.
She has collaborated with terra since 2025.
Joana Azevedo is a landscape architect with a Master’s degree from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (2005–2011) and an internship at Burle Marx Escritório de Paisagismo (2011), the legacy studio of one of the leading figures in modernist landscape architecture worldwide.
She was awarded a postgraduate scholarship at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro במסגרת the extension programme Meu Lugar, Nosso Mundo (Memory and Landscape).
She expanded her academic background into other artistic fields, developing collaborations in audiovisual production, fashion, and design. More recently, she has specialised in communication and marketing for studios and artistic projects through social media, having completed a digital marketing course at Brother Doers School, Escola de Criatividade.
She has collaborated with terra since 2023.
