The project stems from the desire to create a space with a coherent overall reading, establishing a clear connection between the park area, the public buildings and the surrounding city. In this way, it expresses a strong emphasis on the relationship between landscape architecture and architecture, shaping a dynamic urban park while integrating a new programme for the city through a Congress Centre.

The brief included the construction of an urban park, the redefinition of road layouts, and the development of collective housing and a public facility intended for industrial fairs.

The proposal sought to relate the architecture to its surrounding port and industrial context, rehabilitating the railway yards, adopting an industrial material language and establishing an intermodal hub that we believe will restore the central role of this area within the city.

Várzea Sul Park aims to contribute to the creation of a new identity for an area that is currently disconnected from the city, within an abandoned industrial zone.

The project applies the principle of Nature-Based Solutions to transform this valley space into a water retention basin, making use of the course of the Várzea stream.
